Travel is mostly logistics pretending to be freedom
You don't need to do any of these. There's nothing wrong with traveling in whatever way makes sense for you, your budget, and your tolerance for things going sideways. That said, many of these habits have saved me from preventable headaches over the years.
The days of obvious scam emails full of typos are mostly behind us. A lot of today's scams look legitimate enough to catch people who generally know what they're doing.
As someone who enjoys the beach, I think this should be required reading in schools.
Travel Tip
Turning your journey into an adventure can save you money. Instead of a hotel room and flight, consider an overnight train or bus. I took the overnight train from Bangkok down to the coast, and years later I remember the train ride as much as the destination.
