[GetYourGuide](https://www.getyourguide.com/?partner%5Fid=7VBH6NM&utm%5Fmedium=online%5Fpublisher&ref=feraltravel.co) is a website where you can find and book guided activities, attraction tickets, tours, classes, transfers, and other experiences worldwide. I use it to check what’s available in a place and to book the things I want to do.

**I’ve used GetYourGuide for years, and it’s my go-to platform for booking guided activities when I travel. If you book through the affiliate link on this page, I earn a small commission to support my work, but it doesn’t cost you anything extra.*

You don’t have to book everything you see. It’s a helpful way to compare options, read reviews, and understand what you’re signing up for before making a decision.

### Start by seeing what’s available

Search the place you’ll be visiting and browse before you get too specific.

This helps even if you’re not sure what you want to book yet. You might discover walking tours, food experiences, wildlife trips, boat rides, classes, attraction tickets, or activities you hadn’t thought of before.

Notice which activities show up multiple times. If several companies offer similar experiences, you can compare what sets each one apart.

### Don’t choose based on the star rating alone

A high rating is a good place to start, but I focus more on reading the actual reviews.

Check the most recent reviews first. Operators and guides can change, meeting points might move, and attractions sometimes add new rules. An experience that was great two years ago might be different now.

Then look for patterns in the reviews. Do people keep mentioning a great guide, a rushed schedule, too much travel time, or bigger groups than expected?

These details often tell you more than the overall rating. Spotting common themes in reviews is also a good way to compare companies offering similar activities.

### Compare what you’re actually getting

Two activities might seem almost the same until you check the details.

Check things like:

- how long the activity lasts
- group size
- where it starts and ends
- whether transportation or hotel pickup is included
- entrance fees
- meals or drinks
- equipment
- what parts of the experience are guided
- anything you’ll need to pay for separately

A lower price isn’t always a better deal if another option includes admission, transportation, or something else you would have paid for anyway.

### Pay attention to the operator

GetYourGuide is the booking platform. In most cases, a local company is running the activity.

When I find something I’m really interested in, I check who runs it. If it’s expensive, takes a whole day, or is especially important to me, I usually look up the operator on my own as well.

This can show you what the company specializes in, how big their groups usually are, and if the same experience is available elsewhere. Sometimes, the same operator lists an activity on different booking sites, with small changes in the description or price.

### Read the cancellation policy before you book

Don’t assume every GetYourGuide booking has the same terms.

Many activities let you cancel for free within a certain time, but each booking has its own policy. Check the details before you pay, especially if your plans might change because of weather or transportation.

I feel better booking in advance when I know I can still change my mind if needed.

### Check the logistics before you hit book

This part might seem boring, but it helps you avoid unpleasant surprises later.

Check the meeting point, start time, pickup area, how long the activity lasts, and how you’ll get back. A 9 a.m. activity isn’t helpful if you can’t get there by then.

Also check whether the advertised duration includes transportation. A “nine-hour tour” can mean nine hours of activities, or several hours on a bus with a much shorter amount of time at the place you wanted to see.

### Save things before you decide

You don’t have to book as soon as you find something interesting.

I usually save a few options while planning the rest of my trip. Once I know where I’m staying, how much time I have, and what else I want to do, it’s easier to decide which activities deserve a spot in my schedule.

The only exception is for things with limited spots that I’d be really disappointed to miss. I book those right away.

### Use GetYourGuide as a research tool too

You can still get useful information from the platform, even if you book somewhere else in the end.

It’s useful for seeing:

- what guided experiences exist in a destination
- roughly what they cost
- how long they take
- which places are commonly combined
- what other travelers liked or disliked
- which local companies operate them

Sometimes I find an activity and book it through GetYourGuide. Other times, I end up researching more and picking something different. Either way, it’s helpful.

### When I wouldn’t use GetYourGuide

If I already know of a local company I want to use, I might book directly with them. I do the same if their website gives me better details or a booking option that fits my plans better.

If something is easy to do on my own, I skip the guided version, even if it’s offered. The point is to use a guide only when they actually add value to the experience.

### Before the activity

After you book, open your confirmation and review it again before the day of your activity.

Make sure you know:

- where you’re meeting
- when you need to arrive
- whether you need ID or a ticket
- what to wear or bring
- whether the operator has contacted you with updated instructions

Save your booking somewhere you can reach it without needing Wi-Fi.

### Want to compare before you book?

GetYourGuide is the platform I use most, but it’s good to know your other options and what to look for when picking any guided activity. These guides go deeper into booking sites, choosing companies, and spotting experiences that might not be worth your money.
