The first 24 hours matter more than the rest of the itinerary
Most people obsess over where they'll eat on day six and then land at midnight with no clue how to get where they're going. Most of this advice is about reducing friction right after arrival. Transportation sorted, offline maps downloaded, enough cash to not panic when the airport ATM is out of order.
Preparation matters. But there’s a point where “being careful” starts making people rigid, suspicious, and weirdly fragile the second something goes off-script. Some of my best travel experiences happened when I was prepared but not over-planned. I think the ability to adapt calmly can be more valuable than another laminated photocopy of your passport.
Solo Travel Tip
When traveling solo, request a room near the elevator and ask for no adjoining rooms. And always deadbolt your hotel door, even in 'nice' hotels. Tiny habits, but they make a huge difference in how comfortable and settled you feel when arriving somewhere unfamiliar.
