A few insights
There's a million articles telling you how to pack for your trip, but the expensive mistakes aren't packing related. Passports, entry requirements, and missed flights are the type of things that ruin an experience. You can buy the conditioner you forgot, you can't enter a country without the right visa.
Then there's the things you don't see coming. You can't be ready for every possibility, but a few broad backups like a second way to pay or leaving room for things like flight delays can help you be more relaxed when things do go wrong. I think preparation can buy you some freedom out in the real world of imperfect travel.
Although I like the planning phase of travel, there have been times when I am just too busy, or the thought of making one more decision is too much. For those times, or if you just don't enjoy planning, make one big decision and let someone else handle the rest. And I dream of the day a personal chef on a private island is one of the big decisions within reach for me!
