I think we spend too much time looking for 'hidden gems' and not enough time looking for ordinary life. A ride on the local tram or an evening at a community theatre can tell you more about a destination than another attraction ever will.
I wasn't expecting one of my favourite ideas in this article to be... a spreadsheet. It sounds ridiculously unglamorous until you're halfway through a trip wondering where that booking confirmation disappeared to.
The best part of solo travel isn't proving you can do it. It's not having to negotiate every decision. If you want to spend the afternoon on the beach instead of in a museum, you just do.
Solo travel tip
Your hotel isn't just somewhere to sleep. It's part of the travel. If you're travelling solo, your hotel is your backup plan, your quiet place, and sometimes your dinner plans after a long day. A good hotel gives you somewhere to come back to.
